Changing trends in hepatocellular carcinoma management: Results from a nationwide database in the last decade

Objective The therapeutic strategies for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) have greatly expanded in recent years. However, the actual usage of each these treatments clinical routine remains unknown. Here, we analysed distribution and changes main surgical radiological procedures nationwide during last decade. Methods Retrospectively, analysis data on all >18-year-old patients with a diagnosis HCC identified French Program Medicalization Information Systems database that contains discharge summaries from hospitals. number percentage performed January 2010 to December 2019 were extracted. Results A total 68,416 34,000 patients. Whereas incidence remained stable, annual frankly increased over decade (from 4267 8042). Selective internal radiation therapy displayed highest increase (+475%). Among curative treatments, percutaneous tumour ablations more than doubled 10 years, till representing 64% cirrhotic 2019. Conclusion Minimally gained major importance management Percutaneous thermal ablation has emerged as first treatment HCC.
